What to expect
Manual lymphatic drainage uses gentle, specialized movements. For some lymphatic conditions it forms part of a broader plan that may also include compression, movement, and skin care.
Who it may suit
People with assessed lymphatic swelling or selected postoperative needs may consider this service. The cause of swelling and your care plan determine whether treatment is suitable.
Potential benefits
- Possible easing of heaviness or discomfort in selected conditions.
- Potential help managing certain forms of swelling.
- Gentle care as one part of an individualized plan.
Your comfort comes first
New or unexplained swelling needs medical assessment. Lymphatic drainage is not a weight-loss treatment or a general detox service.

Research spotlight
Manual lymphatic drainage and arm swelling
A small randomized crossover study of 31 women with breast-cancer-related lymphedema reported reduced excess arm volume and improvements in several symptoms.
Later research found no extra volume reduction when the technique was added to complete decongestive therapy. Benefits vary; this study does not establish results for all types of swelling.
