What to expect

Cupping uses suction against the skin. Cups may remain in place or move over an area, depending on the technique. Tara is educated in both manual and machine-assisted cupping and can discuss which approach suits your session.

Who it may suit

Adults seeking another approach to muscular discomfort may consider cupping. Your skin condition, health history, and comfort help determine whether it is appropriate.

Potential benefits

  • Possible short-term relief of certain neck-related pain.
  • Potential improvement in comfort with movement.
  • An option to combine with appropriate massage techniques.

Your comfort comes first

Temporary marks may occur. Let Tara know about skin conditions and medications that affect bleeding. Research is promising in some settings, but overall evidence remains limited.

Research spotlight

Machine-assisted cupping for neck pain

A small randomized trial of 50 people with chronic nonspecific neck pain found improved pain and disability after five mechanically pulsating cupping sessions over two weeks, compared with standard care.

The trial was short and did not use a sham treatment. Its particular device and protocol may differ from Tara’s.

Cupping massage for neck pain

A second 50-person trial reported reduced neck pain and improved function after five cupping-massage treatments compared with a waiting list.

The authors called for more rigorous studies; this does not establish benefits for every condition.
